The Knoxville Tree Board has already provided a valuable opportunity for
tree advocates to come together to discuss ways that Knoxville may
become a more tree-friendly environment. It was created
around 1992 in response to the Tree Ordinance that was passed around this same
time. Jeff McCarter
currently serves as the City Arborist.
Knoxville has been designated a Tree City
by the The Arbor Day Foundation for the past 16 years. In order to
become a Tree
City, a city must have:
- A Tree Board or Department
- A Tree Care Ordinance
- A Community Forestry Program
With an Annual Budget of at Least $2 Per Capita
- An Arbor Day Observance and
Proclamation

For many years, Jim Cortese (owner of
Cortese Tree Specialists, Inc.)
was the chair of the Tree Board. It is now chaired by Mr.
Tom Wolf of Wolf
Tree. His term expires
in November, 2008. There are ten other Tree Board members:
